Course Details
Organizations are increasingly relying on evidence for both internal and external stakeholders of competence and experience in the ability to successfully measure, report and mitigate Greenhouse Gas emissions and manage a pathway to net zero. A BSI Greenhouse Gas qualification will give organizations confidence that an individual or employee has attended relevant training and has been adequately assessed on their knowledge and understanding. BSI Greenhouse Gas qualifications are an excellent way to provide organizations with a full learning pathway to help them respond to the rising position of GHG measuring and reporting. The pathway compliments the BSI 7 stage pathway to Net Zero.
Being a practitioner demonstrates that you have a full understanding of quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions using appropriate frameworks at organisational and project level. You’ll be better informed to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and measure and report with integrity.
How will I benefit?
Earning this qualification will:
- Gain an understanding of the key principles of what GHG emissions are
- Better define the GHG emission boundaries for your organization to support in mitigating them
- Enhance the integrity of your GHG quantification within your organization's environmental reporting
- Fostering commitment and leadership from top management, in addressing GHG emissions, facilitating progress towards reduction, removal, and climate change adaptation goals
- Developing a comprehensive plan to achieve effective carbon reduction and mitigation, providing a roadmap for sustainable operations
- Achieving consensus and clarity on the scope of your organization's carbon management plan, ensuring efficient and effective implementation
- Become familiar with GHG emissions verification and validation processes
- Choose the appropriate type of verification and validation exercise for your organization
What will I learn?
By the end of this qualification pathway, you will be able to:
- Outline the importance and benefits of quantifying and reporting on greenhouse gas emissions following ISO 14064-1:2018
- Describe the key requirements, terms and definitions of ISO 14064-1:2018
- Describe how to define the boundaries of GHG emissions associated with your organization to develop a framework to measure, report and manage those emissions
- Define and develop a framework to implement a carbon management plan and obtain top management buy-in
- Determine a suitable GHG reporting boundary; taking into account emission scopes and life cycle perspective
- Plan data collection and calculate GHG emissions
- Define and support the formation and establishment of an implementation team
- Outline the principles, requirements, terms, and guidelines of ISO 14064-3:2019
- Distinguish between verification, validation and management system audits
Outline the difference between first-, second-, and third-party verification and validation
Who should attend?
Anyone involved in the design, development, management, and reporting of their organization’s GHG emissions and removals. These stakeholders could range from internal engineers and data analysts to external contractors and consultants.
Duration
4 days
How will I learn?
This qualification pathway is divided into three separate courses over four days in total. These courses are instructor-led and can be delivered in either virtual or in-person (depending on schedule).
What will I gain?
On completion of the courses and after passing the three qualifications exams, you will earn BSI’s Greenhouse Gas Practitioner qualification, including BSI’s Mark of Trust qualification badge, which you can share on your CV, emails, and social media sites such as LinkedIn.
Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites.
It will be useful for delegates to pre-read the standard before attending the course. A basic understanding of global warming issues would be helpful
Further information
