Course Aim

To provide delegates with a clear and practical understanding of the requirements of ISO 14001:2026 and how an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) can be used as a strategic tool to manage environmental risks, meet compliance obligations, and integrate sustainability into everyday organizational decision-making.

Course Description

Environmental management has become a strategic priority for organizations worldwide. Organizations are increasingly expected to manage environmental impacts, meet compliance obligations, and respond to stakeholder expectations regarding sustainability and climate-related risks. An internationally recognized Environmental Management System (EMS) based on ISO 14001:2026 helps organizations manage environmental responsibilities systematically while improving operational performance and supporting long-term sustainability objectives.

This course provides a structured overview of the key requirements of ISO 14001:2026 and the structure of an effective EMS. Participants will gain an understanding of the purpose and intent of the standard, its harmonized structure, and the key concepts that support environmental management. You will learn how the requirements of ISO 14001:2026 can be interpreted and applied within your organization to manage environmental risks, address compliance obligations, and support continual improvement.

How will I learn?

Our high impact accelerated learning approach increases learning by improving knowledge retention and skill application. This course is activity-based, resulting in a deeper understanding of the material and a greater impact on job performance.

What will I gain?

A Certificate of Competency in the EM competency unit will be provided for students who are deemed “Competent” for the EM competency unit. Certificates of attendance are provided to those who do not pass the competency test, and students will be given the opportunity to retake the test.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites, however it will be useful for delegates to read the standard before attending the course.

Course Materials

Soft Copy: You will receive an email prior to the course with instructions on how to access the online Student Handbook, which can be viewed, downloaded or printed.

NOTE: Copies of the standards are not included in the class fee.

BSI will make reasonable efforts to have loaner copies available for use during the class, but students are encouraged to have their own copy. Soft copies of the digital loaner standard cannot be printed or downloaded.

 Full Day Classes - (Live Online and In-person) There are 2 eight-hour sessions*, one per day. There is an online exam at the end of the competency unit, which is in session 2. Exam range is 120 minutes. Detailed exam instructions will be provided. A Certificate of Competency at the end of the exam will be provided for students who are deemed "Competent". A Certificate of Attendance will be provided to those who do not pass the competency exam, and students will be given the opportunity to retake the test(s).

 Half Day Classes - (Live Online) There are 4 four-hour sessions*, one per day. There is an online exam at the end of the competency unit, which is in session 4. Exam range is 120 minutes. Detailed exam instructions will be provided. A Certificate of Competency at the end of the exam will be provided for students who are deemed "Competent". A Certificate of Attendance will be provided to those who do not pass the competency exam, and students will be given the opportunity to retake the test(s).
